One Thousand Pounds

The words in air, suspended
Spoken by your tiny voice
No idea
The weight
The way I whipped the car off the road
Into D & W’s parking lot
Tears trailing, blurred vision
There is no way to express
Those adult words
From the lips of a child
On paper, in air
It is one thousand pounds of pressure
The fog yesterday morning
Damp car in the spring
Gray seats, darker words
Inescapable guilt
I don’t know how to make this better
